John Harry Davis:
Davis is from Ackerman, Mississippi, and attended Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He participated in boycotts and demonstrations while at Rust College in 1961. There is evidence he was involved with the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) in 1965, because the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission (MSSC) reported that he attended a meeting in Waveland, Mississippi. COFO was an umbrella group that organized a coalition of civil rights organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Davis served as the physical plant director for twenty-seven years, from 1967 to 1994 and the Area of Operations and Physical Plant Department is currently housed in the John H. Davis Plant and Operations Building, which was dedicated in 1999.
