Forrest County

Forrest County is adjacent to Jones, Perry, Stone, Pearl River, Covington, and Lamar County. It is also part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hattiesburg, Carnes, Brooklyn, Fruitland Park, and Petal are its cities. As of 2000, the population was 72,604. It is named in honor of Confederate General Nathan B. Forrest. Its county seat and largest city is Hattiesburg.

As of the census of 2000, there were 72,604 people, 27,183 households, and 17,315 families residing in the county. The population density was 60/km² (156/mi²). There were 29,913 housing units at an average density of 25/km
