ROBERT L. GRAYSON, of Tutwiler, was born on May 10, 1941. He became the first African American mayor of Tutwiler in 1993. He is a veteran of the war in Vietnam, for which he received the Purple Heart, among other awards. He worked for the Mississippi Department of Corrections for thirty years and dedicated his life to public service, serving in several positions including the Vice Chairman of Tallahatchie Housing Board, the LLC Board, the Council Board of Alderman of Tutwiler, the Vice Chairman of Aaron E. Henry Health Care Center Board, and the National Conference of Black Mayors.
